A comprehensive, diagnostic assessment designed to understand your hearing, identify any issues, and give you clarity on the right next steps.
Book A Hearing Test
Your hearing plays a vital role in how you connect with the world around you. When something doesn’t feel quite right—whether that’s difficulty hearing conversations, a blocked sensation, or tinnitus—it’s important to understand why. A hearing test is the first step in that process.
At Tripp Hearing, we go beyond simply measuring what you can hear. We take the time to understand how your hearing is affecting you day to day, so we can give you clear answers and meaningful guidance.
This allows us to identify if a hearing loss is present, understand the cause of any issues, and assess how they may be impacting your everyday life—so you can move forward with confidence.
It’s a detailed, personalised process—because no two people hear the same.
At Tripp Hearing, we take a fully diagnostic approach. We combine multiple tests with clinical expertise to understand your hearing in detail, identify the cause of any issues, and assess how your hearing system is functioning as a whole.
Your appointment typically lasts around 60–90 minutes, allowing time for a detailed and unrushed assessment. We begin with a conversation about your hearing, medical history, and any concerns you’ve been experiencing, so we can focus on what matters most to you.
This thorough approach ensures nothing important is missed and that you receive accurate, reliable results. Any recommendations we make are based on clear clinical evidence—not assumption—so whether your hearing is normal, needs monitoring, or requires further support, you leave with clarity and confidence in what comes next.
We begin by carefully examining your ears using a high-definition video otoscope, allowing you to see exactly what we see. This helps us identify any wax, debris, or visible issues within the ear canal.
If wax or debris is present, it can be safely removed. If your ears are clear, we continue with further diagnostic testing to assess how well your ear drum and middle ear system are functioning, including pressure and reflex responses.
This stage helps us identify conditions such as Eustachian tube dysfunction, fluid behind the ear drum, or other mechanical issues that may be affecting your hearing.
You’ll complete a series of tests in a sound-controlled environment to accurately measure your hearing ability. This includes identifying the quietest sounds you can hear, how clearly you understand speech, and how your hearing performs in background noise.
These tests form the foundation of your hearing profile, allowing us to map your hearing across different frequencies and build a detailed picture of how you hear in real-world situations. The results help us determine not just if a hearing loss is present, but how it may be affecting your day-to-day communication.
This level of detail ensures that any recommendations we make are based on a complete and accurate understanding of your hearing, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Once your assessment is complete, we take the time to talk you through your results in detail, ensuring you fully understand what they mean for you. We’ll explain your hearing levels, whether any hearing loss is present, and the likely cause of any issues identified.
Where appropriate, we’ll discuss your options, whether that’s monitoring your hearing over time, a medical referral, or a tailored hearing solution. There is no pressure—just clear, expert advice to help you make the right decision for you.
You’ll leave with a personalised hearing report that gives you a clear, easy-to-understand overview of your hearing health—without jargon or confusion. This includes insight into how your hearing may be affecting you day to day, along with straightforward guidance on what (if anything) needs to happen next.
A full hearing assessment is £160.
This includes a comprehensive 60–90 minute consultation, all diagnostic testing, a full explanation of your results, and personalised recommendations based on your hearing and lifestyle.
If you have recently attended for ear wax removal or an ear check (£90), you will only pay the £70 difference if you proceed with a hearing test within one month.
If you’re unsure whether you need a full assessment, an online hearing screener can be a useful starting point.
However, it’s important to understand:
– Online tests are not diagnostic
– They cannot assess the health or function of your ears
– Results can be affected by your environment and equipment
They can highlight potential issues—but only a full clinical assessment can provide accurate answers.
If you’re struggling in background noise, asking people to repeat themselves, or turning the television up more than others prefer, it may be time to book a hearing assessment. Early testing helps protect long-term hearing health.
You can book a comprehensive hearing test in directly with Tripp Hearing at any of our practices in Wheatley, Wallingford or Witney, no GP referral needed. We provide detailed assessments in a calm, professional setting with clear explanations and no pressure to proceed.<br />
A hearing test is a comprehensive assessment of your hearing and ear health. We begin by discussing your symptoms and lifestyle, followed by an examination of your ears. We then carry out a series of diagnostic tests to measure how well you hear different sounds and speech. Once complete, we explain your results clearly and talk through any next steps.
A full hearing assessment typically takes between 60 and 90 minutes. This allows enough time for detailed testing, a thorough explanation of your results, and personalised recommendations.
