Local Loop
What’s the scoop on the LOCAL LOOP?
As part of a new series for those among you who enjoy live entertainment, we thought that we would do a little investigating on your behalf into induction loop systems, which venue has them, and where to sit.
The Sheldonian offers a loop system which is effective all over the theatre although, only when the rather hit & miss house PA system is used! There are plans to update the system in the near future. We'll keep you posted on any developments.
The New Theatre has an established loop which sounds at its best in the last three rows of the stalls. In addition to offering visual performances (see Article) the Oxford Playhouse has an infrared system attached to the top of the stage which is at its most effective in the stalls from rows K to R or in the circle from A to F.
In the charming Theatre Chipping Norton the stalls are all served by the loop, however, the seats near to the pillars tend to be a weaker signal and the absolute best are rows H, G ,F and E.
Oxford Playhouse - 'See a Voice' Project
The Oxford Playhouse now host captioned performances as a part of the see-a-voice project. A wonderful idea opening up live stage performance to the deaf and hearing impaired. The performances translate the spoken word, descriptions, sound effects and music into a 'subtitle' unit on stage.
